PAX 3 Vaporizer Review

You may find such an introduction misguided and completely out of place, but I have to admit that I wish all companies would treat their products this way. I had a fortnight to test the PAX 3 and throughout the whole time the aluminium scream of the latest technology never ceased to amaze me. Let’s take a look at it.

Construction and design

If you already have experience with PAX, you’ll notice almost immediately that PAX 3 looks almost identical to PAX 2. For the most part, not much has changed in the design – the dimensions or the warming chamber, the vapor line, the mouthpiece. Everything is virtually indistinguishable.

The PAX 3 has the same sleek yet robust anodised aluminium casing that is sophisticated enough for even the most formal occasions, yet strong and durable enough to pack in your backpack and take with you into the great outdoors.

What’s more, you can get the PAX 3 in the colour you like best. In addition to beautiful, informative colour LED indicators, the PAX 3 also has tactile feedback – it vibrates when it’s ready to use. Trust me, you’ll really appreciate this feature.

The PAX 3 works in much the same way as its predecessor, but with one addition – the device is now equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, which I will mention later. In terms of workmanship, there is nothing to fault with the vaporiser. The manufacturer is firmly convinced of its quality, as evidenced by the ten-year warranty it provides on its product.

There is power in simplicity

Practically everything about this vaporizer is user-friendly. The basic functionality of the system is based on the use of a single button. However, you will discover the most elegant solution when you want to open the chamber for herbs.

Opening it is easier than changing the batteries in a remote-controlled car. The lid is held in place by magnets, so you just press it with one finger and then remove it. Thumbs up for this solution, which I think is virtually unbreakable.

PAX 3 mobile app

Now I’m getting to the promised description of how to use the Bluetooth connection, which is to control the device using a smartphone. Not only can you conveniently set the vaporisation temperature in the app, but it also offers various heating modes, which dramatically change the vaporiser’s possibilities.

The app offers five settings – Standard, Flavor, Boost, Efficiency and Stealth. You can read about how each mode works in a separate window in this article.

Herbs and extracts

Pax Labs decided to add a modified lid to the regular herb chamber lid to allow the device to be used with smaller amounts of herbs, something that PAX 2 users have been calling for quite loudly. In addition, with the PAX 3, the user can vape not only herbs, but also oils and concentrates thanks to a special insert.

Fast heating, quality steam

My enthusiasm was enhanced by the first switching on, when the vaporizer warmed up within a very short moment. Probably the fastest of all the vapes I have ever gotten my hands on. The PAX 3, like its predecessor and the vast majority of portable vaporizers on the market, uses conduction heating. 

The inhaled vapours are gentle and thanks to the different heating settings, the user can largely adjust them to his or her preferences. I have found it useful to use really well dried herbs while using the vaporizer.

Herb heating modes in PAX 3

Standard

A basic setting that raises the temperature of the heating chamber by five degrees Celsius during the pull from the vaporizer, so it does not drop below the desired value.

Flavor

This setting works similarly to the previous one, but raises and lowers the temperature faster. As a result, flavour and aroma is better preserved between coats.

Boost

This mode is best suited for users who crave fast and efficient vaping. The result is a thicker vapour.

Efficiency Mode

Ensures a slow temperature rise of 1 degree during use of the vaporizer.

Stealth Profile

The translation of the word Stealth is “Secret” and that accurately describes its function. Between each swipe, the temperature is lowered much more aggressively, keeping the released scent to a minimum.

Stronger batteries

What really pleased me was the use of a more powerful battery than in the previous model. In terms of numbers, the increase of 500 mAh does not seem significant, but in reality it means two, maybe three additional uses, which can make a considerable difference when there is no possibility of recharging.

When I add to that the fact that recharging from zero to 100% via USB takes only about an hour and a half, I give it another thumbs up.

Rating

The PAX 3 is one of the highest quality portable herb and concentrate vaporizers on the market. Its performance is top notch, and by using a smartphone connection, users have a 21st century device in their hands. All underlined by ultra-fast heating of herbs and extracts and more than adequate battery life – features that are key in a portable vaporizer. The ten-year manufacturer’s warranty alone makes it a very good and profitable investment that will pay for itself many times over.

Verdict

The PAX 3 is a powerful, durable and elegant vaporizer that is as easy to use as it can be. It is sure to be loved not only by vaping novices, but also by experienced herbalists.
