Optional accessories
If you want to get the most out of the Firefly 2+, you will need a good herb grinder. This is because well-ground herbs heat more evenly and provide a better vaporisation experience. The Chewy G3 Basic Edition is one of the best electric grinders thanks to its smooth grinding and easy maintenance.

Design
Firefly 2+ looks very similar to the original Firefly 2. The main difference is that the 2+ has a window that highlights the new logo located below the viewing portal. Other than this new addition, everything else is essentially the same, which is a good thing because the Firefly 2 was designed very well.
You’ll still find an easy-to-use magnetic cover, and the same goes for the touch sensors on both sides of the device. The way the touch sensors are positioned means you have to hold the vaporiser in a way that looks and feels unnatural. This prevents you from accidentally turning it on. You can play around with the smartphone app, so you only need to use one of the sensors, but then you might accidentally turn it on in your pocket.
Fortunately, you don’t have to hold it for too long, as each puff is approximately the same as an entire session with other vaporizers. The smartphone app allows you to adjust the controls so you don’t have to hold both sensors at the same time, which makes it a little easier to use.
The Firefly 2+ is quite large, but its shape makes it easy to carry around.
The rounded edges are more pocket-friendly than most vaporizers, making it easy to store and remove from your pocket. This makes it easy to use the “on-demand” feature, which allows you to take a quick puff or two on the go. There’s no need to worry about the mouthpiece getting dirty, as it can be easily removed if necessary.
The body and lid of the 2+ are made of magnesium and the viewing window is made of quartz. The heating chamber is made of a ceramic alloy, which, in combination with the borosilicate glass air vent, ensures the purity of the vaporised herbs.
The Firefly 2+ vaporiser is well made, as you would expect from a vaporiser in this price range. Although it is a little more complicated than other dry herb vaporisers, it is not difficult to use.
Smartphone app
The Firefly 2+ smartphone app is pretty good. It gives you a wider temperature range than you can get on the device itself. On the vaporiser, you can choose a temperature from 160 °C to 215 °C in 8-degree increments.
Using the app, you can switch from 90 °C to 215 °C in 4-degree increments. The app also provides useful instructional videos and allows you to customise the button configuration.
Firefly 2+ features
On-demand heating is a unique feature of the Firefly 2+, as it is one of only two vaporizers with this feature currently available. The other is the Ghost MV1. On-demand heating means that the vaporizer heats up and cools down almost instantly. This gives users the freedom to vape one hit whenever they want.
With conventional session vaporizers, the user must heat the entire chamber in one session, while ‘on-demand’ heating allows them to divide the chamber into different mini-sessions according to their readiness. ‘On-demand’ heating makes it easier for users to microdose if they prefer, a feature not available with session vaporizers.
How to use
With dry herbs:
- Remove the lid, place your herb in the chamber, and then replace the lid.
- Gently press the touch sensors to start the heating process.
- Once the logo stops flashing and turns green, heating is complete.
- Inhale from the mouthpiece for seven to ten seconds.
- If there is herb in the chamber, you can repeat steps 2 to 4 whenever you want.
With concentrates:
- Remove the lid and place the concentrate insert into the heating chamber.
- Apply a small amount of concentrate to the pad and then replace the lid.
- Gently press both touch sensors to start the heating process.
- Once the logo stops flashing and turns green, heating is complete.
- Inhale from the mouthpiece for seven to ten seconds.
Cleaning and maintenance
The Firefly 2+ is a very low-maintenance device, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t need any maintenance at all. So don’t hesitate to do everything you can to keep it clean. You can use a small brush to clean larger pieces of residue from the heating chamber.
You can follow up with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to wipe the chamber and finish the job. You can also use alcohol-soaked wipes to clean the air path. As for the mouthpiece, you can choose a suitable tool from the cleaning kit to clean out any residue.
Performance and vapour quality
Vapour quality with dry herbs
2+ does not produce any vapour, as most of it evaporates and is inhaled. This means that no terpenes are wasted, there are no large clouds, but the hits are very strong.
Thanks to its dynamic convection heating, the Firefly 2 had one of the best dry herb flavours. It was difficult to enjoy the full flavour because the draw resistance was higher than usual. The FireFly 2+ vaporiser does not have this problem because the draw resistance is much lower and it is noticeably easier for the lungs to inhale all the tasty vapour. The resistance is still higher than most other vaporizers, but much better than before.
The ideal length of each puff is about ten to thirty seconds, and each one feels like its own mini session, as it is stronger than the same puffs on other vaporizers.
Even if you are a vaping veteran, it may be better to start slowly, and this is doubly true for newbies. Regardless of your level of experience, you never have to worry about the vapour being hot, no matter what temperature setting you choose. This is because the glass air path helps cool the vapour before it reaches the mouthpiece.
Since the Firefly 2+ is a purely convection type vaporiser, you will need to stir the herb every so often. When you stir it is up to you, but I found that every three to four puffs was sufficient. However, if you want the flavour to last as long as possible, you can stir the herb after every puff.

Vapour quality with concentrates
The performance with concentrates is weaker than with herbs, as the Firefly 2+ does not reach the high temperatures that wax concentrates need to fully vaporise. In addition, it is not very convenient, as you have to insert the concentrate pad every time you want to vape.
The performance with concentrates is not bad, but it is not a reason to buy the Firefly 2+. When using the Firefly 2+, I would stick to vaping herbs, as this is where its strengths lie.
It is better not to use your main herb vaporizer for concentrates. Not only does this make it more difficult to clean, but you will also have to clean it more often.
If you want to use extracts, a concentrate vaporizer pen is a better choice. It works perfectly with your extracts and keeps your herbal vaporizer in top condition.
Battery performance
I was able to get an average of sixty-four sessions on a single charge. That’s because I got about eight bowls per charge and about eight hits per bowl. You could probably get more sessions with a lower temperature setting.
Recharging is very fast, taking about forty-five minutes. The battery is removable, but can only be charged when it is in the vaporizer. This means you lose the benefits of a replaceable battery.
