Design and construction

Compared to the previous model, the Plus is more compact. The body is 10 cm high, 7 cm wide and 3 cm thick. It is made of durable plastic and has deep ribbing, which prevents it from slipping out of your hand.

The vaporiser has an easily removable magnetic mouthpiece made of medical-grade plastic, under which is a zirconium cooling path that cools the vapour without affecting its taste. This is a significant difference from the original CFX, which has no cooling path — the vapour from the chamber to the mouthpiece passes only through metal conduits.

The CFX+ has a built-in lithium battery with a capacity of 2500 mAh. There is a USB-C charging port on the bottom of the vaporiser, which replaces the older micro-USB and DC ports from the previous model. This makes the vape compatible with most commonly used chargers today, but a charging cable is still included in the package.

Charging is fast, the battery is full within an hour, and the device can be charged even while in use. However, this is not good for the battery, so I recommend charging any vaporiser when you are not using it.

The port is not covered or waterproof, so extra care must be taken when handling and cleaning to prevent liquids from getting into it and damaging the vaporiser.

The device is equipped with a colour display with an improved user interface. It provides information on:

• battery status
• current heating temperature
• selected heating temperature
• preset mode
• automatic heating shut-off timer

There are two buttons on the side of the vaporiser for controlling the settings.

Control

The CFX+ relies on just two buttons. Personally, I prefer simplicity; after all, I’m holding a vaporiser in my hand, not a television remote control. Unfortunately, in the case of the CFX+, the controls are not particularly intuitive. The menu is activated by double-clicking, the interface is not user-friendly, and navigating through the menu requires patience. Fortunately, the average user does not need to change the settings often.

The temperature can be displayed in degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit. You can set it in increments of 121–221 °C, or you can use the presets. In addition to the temperature, you can also select the length of the session, ranging from 2 to 8 minutes, after which the heating automatically stops. However, the device remains on, as the model does not have an automatic shut-off option, so if you forget to turn it off yourself, you may drain the battery even when the device is not in use.

In addition to temperature and time settings, you can also set vibrations on the display. However, the device only uses vibration feedback when turning on and off, unfortunately not to indicate any other situations, such as when the target temperature is reached or after the session ends. Finally, there are brightness and language settings.

Vaping experience

The Boundless CFX+ is designed for vaporising herbs and does not allow for the vaping of any other materials. Although this may be perceived as a disadvantage, this single-purpose approach allows the manufacturer to focus fully on optimising performance for dry plant materials. Spoiler alert: it’s a price worth paying.

The chamber heats up very quickly, within 30 seconds. Thanks to the zirconium cooling path, the vapour is pleasantly cool and does not cause irritation even at higher temperatures. The vapour is dense, voluminous and tastes great. I have nothing to complain about.

The vaporiser has a decent battery life, lasting for 6-8 sessions on a single charge. Considering the fast charging via USB-C, this should be sufficient not only for regular users but also for more frequent users.

Maintenance

Maintenance Plus is very easy. The chamber needs to be cleaned after each use. Once it has cooled down, simply empty out any herb residue and clean the chamber with the included brush.

The mouthpiece is magnetic, so it can be easily removed and cleaned. The cooling and vapour path should ideally be cleaned about once a week, depending on use. The cooling path is removable, and all its parts, except for the seal, can be soaked in isopropyl alcohol for a few minutes, rinsed with water and left to dry. The vapour path and the area around the heating chamber can be easily cleaned with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol.

Who is the CFX+ ideal for?

The CFX+ is the perfect choice for:

• users who want a compact, simple but powerful herbal vaporiser
• those who want rich vapour with good flavour
• those who require precise temperature control

If you are looking for an elegant pocket vape pen or, conversely, a robust device with detailed settings and a replaceable battery, you may want to look elsewhere. CFX+ does not fall into either of these categories, but offers an ideal compromise between practicality and performance.

Comparison with other models

The market for portable herbal vaporisers has been growing rapidly in recent years, and the range on offer is becoming increasingly diverse. Brands are competing with each other and coming up with new technologies. For users, this means a wider range of options, i.e. more possibilities to find a device that exactly matches their preferences.

If you have a higher budget for a vaporiser, I would personally go for the Arizer Air Max – for a relatively small surcharge compared to the Boundless CFX+, it offers not only concentrate support, but also advanced and intuitive settings and a powerful replaceable battery. However, the CFX+ is definitely not a bad choice – compared to the Goboof Alfa, it offers cleaner and cooler vapour and more advanced temperature and session length settings for the same price.

If you want to save money and your priority is smooth vapour and authentic flavour, and you don’t mind limited settings, consider the Linx Eden Switch.

If you already own the original Boundless CFX, upgrading to the CFX+ is definitely worth it. The new version offers better vapour cooling thanks to a zirconium cooling path, fast USB-C charging, a colour display with an improved interface, and the ability to adjust the session length.

Conclusion

The Boundless CFX+ is a successful successor to the popular CFX and clearly shows that the manufacturer has listened to its users. Thanks to the zirconium cooling path, the vapour is cool and retains the authentic taste of the herbs. Compared to its predecessor, it also has fast USB-C charging and improved settings on the colour display.

My only criticism would be the controls, which are not user-friendly. It lacks an automatic shut-off for the entire device and could have better notifications. Nevertheless, it is a solid device that anyone looking for a herb vaporiser with fast heating and cool, tasty vapour at a fair price should consider. For owners of the original CFX, the transition to the CFX+ is a clear step forward that is definitely worth it.
