Review: G Pen Connect turns any bong into a top-of-the-line e-dab rig

What is G Pen Connect and who is it for?

G Pen Connect is an e-nail, a device designed for use with bongs. Instead of heating a regular metal nail manually with a torch flame, the e-nail has an electrically heated ceramic chamber that you fill with concentrate, turn on the device, and the session is ready.

G Pen Connect will appeal primarily to occasional and advanced users who are looking for a convenient way to vape concentrates with their glass.

The manufacturer touts its modern and practical design, easy operation, three heating modes, fast 5-second heat-up time, and clean taste thanks to the ceramic heating element and patented reverse airflow technology. Is it worth buying?

Package contents and device description

If I had to use one word to describe the Connect, it would be compact. All its parts are stored in a case, which, in addition to the body with the atomiser and battery, contains:

  • 14 mm male glass adapter
  • micro-USB charging cable
  • 3 spare sealing rings

The G Pen Connect can also be used with 10 mm and 18 mm adapters, but these are not included in the package and are sold separately.

The body of the device has an elegant appearance and feels sturdy. It is made of aluminium alloy with a matte black finish. On the side, you will find a button that serves as an air intake valve. The control button covers the entire side of the battery.

The battery snaps onto the side of the body magnetically, and the top cover of the chamber is also held in place by a magnet. Assembling the device is quick and easy, and the magnetic connection is surprisingly strong, holding reliably during use – I have never had the battery fall out or the cover fly off.

The atomiser is also set in an aluminium alloy with a matte black finish, and the entire part is removable. It is equipped with a ceramic heating element. The advantage of ceramic is its neutral taste and even heating.

The ergonomics of the device are surprisingly good. When the Connect is attached to a bong, the protruding battery looks strange at first glance, but when in use, the design makes sense – the control button on the battery sits nicely under the thumb of the hand holding the bong.

At first, I was afraid that the battery would tip over the smaller pipe, but when I held the device in my hand, my fears disappeared — the Connect is surprisingly light and can be used with smaller bongs without any problems. Only pocket bubblers may be at risk of tipping over, but I usually hold them in my hand for the entire session anyway.

Overall, I rate the construction and design very positively: the G Pen Connect looks great, feels durable, is quick and easy to assemble thanks to the magnets, and is comfortable to use.

First impressions

Time for the first session! When you turn on the device, you start by selecting a mode. The Connect has three modes, which you can switch between with a triple click: low, medium and high. Press the control button twice to start automatic heating.

The device will first heat up, which you will recognise by the logo flashing. Heating is very fast — it takes only 5 seconds! Once the logo is lit continuously, it means that the chamber has reached its maximum temperature and is vaporising the concentrate. If you want, you can use manual heating just hold down the battery button for a long time.

I first tried the device on the medium setting, which I also liked the most — it offered a truly balanced experience, the flavour was clean and full, and the vapour was smooth but beautifully milky.

However, I also tested the vaporiser on low and high settings, which I will discuss below.

My first impression of the G Pen Connect was excellent. It is easy to prepare, heats up in a flash, and produces tasty, thick vapour.

Flavour and vapour density

The taste and density of the vapour is, of course, the most important factor in the evaluation — and the G Pen Connect did not disappoint.

The manufacturer has used patented reverse airflow technology to ensure even evaporation of the concentrate without burning. And indeed, I did not notice a burnt taste even once during testing. There was no burning even when using the strongest setting

However, it is important to thoroughly clean the chamber after use so that no residue remains that could burn during the next session.

As I mentioned, the G Pen Connect offers three heating modes.

Mode Voltage and indication Vapour characteristics
Low 3.1 V (blue) Maximum flavour of the concentrate, smooth and least dense vapour. Ideal for enjoying terpenes and aroma.
Medium 3.6 V (green) Balanced ratio of flavour and strength. The vapour is denser.
High 4.1 V (red) Strongest effect and densest vapour, but weaker flavour.

At the highest setting, Connect can produce surprisingly dense vapour, which one would not expect from such a small device. Of course, the rule also applies to Connect: the larger the clouds of vapour, the less pronounced the flavour.

The low (blue) mode, on the other hand, produces less vapour but has an excellent flavour in which all the terpenes stand out beautifully.

As I mentioned, my favourite is green, i.e. the middle setting. I enjoy clouds, but I mainly want to savour the concentrate. I also switched between settings during the session — I took the first puff on blue for flavour, continued in green mode, and finished with red to get the most out of the last puff.

However, the experience of the draw may vary depending on the concentrate you use — some concentrates may have the most intense effect when heated to a lower temperature, while a higher temperature reduces their potency.

While vaping, you can press the button on the side of the device to let more air into the chamber for a lighter vape if desired.

Another nice feature is that the Connect has overheating protection: it has a time-limited heating cycle that lasts 10 seconds, and the manual cycle is limited to 15 seconds, after which it switches itself off. However, it is still best not to leave it switched on unattended.

Battery life

The G Pen Connect has a battery capacity of 850 mAh. By today’s standards, this may seem low, but considering that it is designed for short dabbing sessions, the battery is more than sufficient. In practice, a fully charged battery lasted me about 10 to 15 cycles.

The battery is charged via the included micro-USB, which is a shame, as manufacturers are already switching to the faster and more universal USB-C. In any case, since the battery is removable, it is possible to purchase a spare and alternate and recharge them as needed

A big plus is the support for so-called pass-through technology – you can vape even while charging.

The battery is fully charged in about 90 minutes. During charging, the LED lights up red and green when fully charged.

Cleaning and maintenance

As I mentioned, if you want to get the most out of your G Pen Connect, you need to take care of it – just like any other vaporiser.

After each session, it is best to remove any concentrate residue as soon as possible. If there is a lot of material in the chamber, use a tool to remove it – but work carefully so as not to scratch the ceramic.

Then wipe the chamber with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol. If the chamber is very clogged, you can first heat it empty to the highest temperature so that the concentrate residue burns off and is easier to wipe off.

I also recommend:

  • Use a cotton swab to clean the vents, buttons, magnetic contacts and adapter connections.

  • Ideally, immerse the glass adapter in isopropyl alcohol overnight, then rinse it well and let it dry.

  • Wipe the body of the device with a slightly damp cloth.

After several sessions, it is advisable to disassemble the entire device and clean all threads, joints and seals with isopropyl alcohol.

Comparison with other models

Although the G Pen Connect is not the only e-nail on the market, it does not have many direct competitors. I therefore decided to compare it with another model from the same manufacturer – the G Pen Roam.

The G Pen Roam is in a similar price range, but unlike the Connect, it is a full-fledged portable e-rig

G Pen Roam G Pen Connect
Usage On its own With your own bong
Portability Compact, complete Very compact, but requires a bong
Temperature control Display with temperature settings in degrees 3 modes
Flavour and vapour density High-quality experience, but weaker hits compared to Connect Clean and tasty vapour, density varies depending on mode, result influenced by bong
Battery 1300 mAH, charging time up to 90 minutes 850 mAH, charging in 90 minutes

When comparing the two, the question arises — why buy the G Pen Connect when the G Pen Roam offers a complete device for a similar price?

Roam is the right choice for those who don’t have a pipe and want a quality portable vaporiser for extracts.

On the other hand, the Connect will be appreciated mainly by those who already have high-quality glass and want to use it for comfortable vaping of concentrates with a guarantee of a quality experience.

Summary of pros and cons

✅ Main advantages ❌ Main disadvantages

Good price considering what it offers

A few final observations

We’re nearing the end! I enjoyed my time with the Connect and have a few more tips for you on how to get the most out of it.

  • Do not overfill the chamber: I found that for the best experience, it is better to use smaller doses of concentrate. When the chamber is full, the concentrate can evaporate less easily, stick to the lid or passages, and burn.

  • Clean after each dab: I understand that cleaning is the least fun part of the session, but it’s definitely worth not underestimating it. Cleaning the Connect only takes a few minutes, while hardened resin is much more difficult to remove, and residues can burn, spoil the taste and reduce the life of the device.

  • Use the air intake button with caution: At first, I tended to keep the button pressed down the entire time I was inhaling. Then I realised that I was letting in too much air and the vapour was too diluted.

To better utilise the potential of the extract, I decided to first inhale without pressing the button so that the chamber would fill with thick vapour, and only at the end would I add air to soften the draw. However, this is purely a personal preference — some people prefer weaker vapour, while others do not allow any air in. Do not be afraid to experiment!

  • Manual heating: As I mentioned, the Connect heats up automatically by double-pressing the button on the battery, but a longer press activates manual mode. I don’t see any reason why you would use it as standard instead of the automatic mode, as it actually makes it more difficult to control, but I found it great when I wanted to heat up the rest of the concentrate and didn’t want to run the whole cycle.

It also comes in handy at the end of a session when you’re cleaning the chamber and squeezing out the last bit of vapour.

An unrivalled e-nail for every bong

If you own a quality bong and want to use it for dabbing without unnecessary effort, the G Pen Connect is a great choice. It is compact, intuitive and offers lightning-fast 5-second heating and three heating modes

The vapour is tasty thanks to the ceramic chamber and patented reverse airflow technology.

The battery has sufficient capacity, but I would have preferred a more modern USB-C connector instead of micro-USB. However, a big advantage is the ability to use the e-nail even while charging

You will be hard pressed to find competition in the e-nail segment at a similar price point — the G Pen Connect offers an elegant way to turn your bong into a full-fledged e-dab rig and will definitely not disappoint you.
