The AirVape Legacy Pro ranks among the best portable dry herb vaporisers and boasts top-quality materials and construction. 

The manufacturer has opted for a combination of metal, glass, ceramics and other premium elements to achieve a pure vapour taste and durability. The body of the device is made of solid aluminium alloy (the manufacturer refers to it as “aerospace aluminium”) with a matte black finish. The subtle 24-carat gold plating (especially on the inside of the heating chamber and micro-dosing disc) not only adds a touch of luxury, but also contributes to even heating and does not affect the taste.

Top-notch design and ergonomics

The AirVape Legacy Pro caught my eye at first glance with its luxurious design and high-quality workmanship. The body of the device is made of a lightweight and durable aluminium alloy, complemented by stylish details – the finish combines a matte black hemp fabric and vegan leather with gold accents.

This makes the vaporiser very attractive and pleasant to the touch. The rounded edges contribute to a comfortable grip – the device fits well in the hand. What’s more, it looks great and feels premium. It’s simply a joy to hold such a device. 

The Legacy Pro combines modern tech design with a touch of retro luxury, which will appeal to those who want something more than just an ordinary plastic device.

The designers have also thought through the small details. I like that the AirVape logo is discreetly displayed on the surface and on the display (it rotates when heating), which underlines the overall impression of careful workmanship.

In terms of size and weight, the Legacy Pro is compact but somewhat heavier (weight ~232 g). The dimensions are approximately 119 × 52 × 21 mm, so the device is only slightly larger than, for example, the well-known Mighty+ from Storz & Bickel. You will feel the weight when carrying it in your pocket. 

In any case, the construction is robust and durable; the vaporiser can withstand normal transport without damage, and materials such as metal and hardened plastic protect the internal components.

The design also includes a solution for accessing the chamber and battery. The Legacy Pro has a hinged lid (held securely in place by a new locking mechanism) which, when opened, reveals a gold herb chamber and micro-dosing disc, a built-in stirrer, and a cover for the battery compartment and glass tube.

The new snap-lock lid is significantly better than the original model, which used a magnet. Instead, the Legacy Pro uses a mechanical latch hinge that ensures a perfect seal and stability of the lid.

You don’t have to worry about it opening accidentally in your pocket or air escaping when you take a puff. I have one minor reservation about the magnetic attachment of the mouthpiece – the black ceramic mouthpiece is very comfortable in the mouth, but the magnet that holds it in place could be stronger. This isn’t a big problem in normal use, but it’s good to be aware of it. 

Simple and intuitive controls

The Legacy Pro has only three buttons – the main power button and two +/– buttons for temperature adjustment. The controls are simple and intuitive.

It is turned on and off by pressing the power button three times; the temperature is adjusted using the arrows in 1 °C increments. When you hold the device in your hand, all buttons are easily accessible with your thumb. 

The clear OLED display on the vaporiser body shows the current temperature, battery status and, if applicable, the session timer countdown.

There is even a vibration response – the device vibrates when the desired temperature is reached or when it switches off automatically, so there is no need to constantly monitor the display. 

These features make the Legacy Pro very user-friendly, even for less experienced vapers.

Fluffy clouds of vapour with a distinctive herbal flavour

The AirVape Legacy Pro truly excels in vapour quality. Thanks to its hybrid heating system and clean air path, the vaporiser provides very tasty, smooth and yet powerful vapour. This device produces a smooth, fluffy cloud of vapour with a distinctive herbal flavour.

This is aided by a design that includes a gold-plated chamber, glass air tube and ceramic mouthpiece, which ensure purity and partially cool the vapour.

On the other hand, during longer sessions and at higher temperatures, the flavour may weaken in later puffs, while the production of visible vapour remains high. This is related to hybrid heating – the first puffs are the most flavourful, and then, once the herbs have lost most of their terpenes, the vapour becomes less aromatic. However, overall, I rate the vapour from the Legacy Pro as excellent. 

You can even vaporise concentrates with it (using the included wax pad), although the maximum temperature of 227 °C / 440 °F is rather on the low side for effective vaporisation of some extracts. The vapour is tasty, but some of the material may not vaporise completely. 

However, the temperature range is more than sufficient for herbs, and you can achieve a truly thorough extraction of active ingredients.

Overall, the AirVape Legacy Pro offers top-quality vapour that will satisfy both connoisseurs demanding maximum flavour and lovers of thick clouds. Compared to most competing portable vaporisers, it delivers above-average performance and is considered by many to be one of the best dry herb vaporisers in the portable category.

Heating performance 

As I mentioned above, the Legacy Pro uses hybrid heating – the herbs are heated by a combination of hot air (convection) and the chamber walls (conduction). This solution provides fast and even extraction of active ingredients. The vaporiser heats up extremely quickly: it reaches a temperature of around 200 °C in about 15 seconds.

The manufacturer states that it reaches 204 °C (400 °F) in 17 seconds, making the Legacy Pro one of the fastest portable vaporisers on the market. I can confirm that the device vibrates after ~10–15 seconds and the display shows the temperature reached. This allows you to start inhaling very quickly. 

The temperature can be set with 1 °C precision in the range from 100 °C to 240 °C, so you can choose the mode that suits you best – lower temperatures for tastier and smoother vapour, higher temperatures for denser and stronger vapour.

With the Legacy Pro, the manufacturer has corrected the inconsistent heating and burning of herbs: the heating is not only more powerful but also safer – even at the maximum temperature of 464 °F (240 °C), the herbs do not burn.

When set above ~220 °C, a “wax mode” warning appears on the display – such high temperatures are more suitable for concentrates. For normal vaping of dried herbs, a range of approximately 170–215 °C is usually used, in which the Legacy Pro works great.

The vaporiser offers two mode settings: session mode and on-demand mode.

In classic session mode, after switching on, the device continuously heats up to the selected temperature and maintains it for a set interval (you can choose between 3, 5 or 10 minutes). This is practical for longer sessions or sharing.

In contrast, on-demand mode means that heating is only activated when the button is pressed and held during inhalation. The herbs are thus heated only at the moment of inhalation (convection heating prevails) and remain “at rest” between inhalations, which saves material and preserves the flavour for later use.

Legacy Pro therefore offers: fast, intense heating for immediate use and a classic mode for longer relaxation sessions.

In terms of heating performance, the device excels in speed, flexibility and reliability – it is capable of fully extracting the contents of the chamber in a short time (typically 4–7 puffs to completely exhaust one dose).

Battery life and charging

The AirVape Legacy Pro is equipped with a replaceable 18650 battery with a capacity of 3200 mAh, which is an improvement over its predecessor.

When fully charged, the vaporiser can last for approximately 75 to 90 minutes of continuous use (depending on the selected temperature and mode).

In practice, this means that it can handle around 4-6 full bowls (chambers) before the battery needs to be recharged or replaced. Up to ~20 shorter micro-doses or group sessions can be completed on a single charge.

A great feature is the ability to quickly replace the battery: the battery compartment cover is accessible under a hinged lid, and a depleted cell can be replaced with a charged one in a matter of seconds.

Legacy Pro supports modern charging via a USB-C cable and also offers wireless Qi charging – just place it on a compatible wireless charger or power bank. Charging via cable takes approximately 2 hours, which is not bad, especially for such a large battery (approx. 1.5 A charging current).

The combination of USB-C and Qi charging + a replaceable battery + a wireless power bank gives you maximum freedom and eliminates the risk of a “stuck” dead battery. The device can be used while charging.

In terms of power management, the Legacy Pro also has a practical timer and auto-off function. You can set the length of a single session to 3, 5 or 10 minutes, after which the vaporiser will turn itself off to save battery power. 

Overall, I rate the battery life of the Legacy Pro as excellent. Perhaps the only drawback is the somewhat slower battery charging directly in the device – approximately 2 hours. So for the impatient, it is advisable to have a second battery or use an external charger.

More complicated maintenance and cleaning

One of the few weak points of the Legacy Pro is its more demanding maintenance and cleaning. 

Due to its hybrid heating and emphasis on maximum flavour, the device has a relatively complex air path with multiple components. All vapour passes sequentially through the gold chamber, micro-disc/screen, glass tube and mouthpiece with silicone seal – and over time, dirt (resin, fine herb particles, etc.) accumulates on all these parts. 

The Legacy Pro therefore needs to be cleaned regularly to maintain its performance. However, I must commend the manufacturer for making it easy to disassemble: the user can remove the glass airpath (tube), take out the micro-dosing disc and disassemble the mouthpiece (separate the ceramic part from the silicone ring and screen).

Furthermore, the bottom door can be opened and the battery removed, which makes the chamber accessible from the other side. All key parts can therefore be separated for cleaning.

For routine maintenance, it is recommended to empty the chamber of leached herbs after each vaping session (or at least after every other session) and sweep out the residue with the included brush. It is best to do this while the residue is still warm and soft to prevent it from building up. Blowing or tapping the screen will also help remove crumbs.

A thorough cleaning (after about 30–50 uses) takes about 10–15 minutes and should not be postponed, as a clogged screen significantly impairs airflow and thus the quality of the vapour.

Although the manufacturer has made several changes in the new Pro version to make cleaning easier, the chamber is quite flat and wide, so when emptying the herbs, crumbs will still scatter around and need to be swept back with a brush.

Overall, it can be said that the Legacy Pro is more difficult to maintain than simpler vaporisers (e.g. those with purely conductive heating and fewer parts). 

To make it easier, I recommend cleaning it regularly and continuously – then you won’t have to deal with heavily burnt deposits. 

Use isopropyl alcohol and soft tools (cotton swabs, cloths) for cleaning. Do not rub the gold-plated parts, as gold is soft – it is better to let them soak. The glass tube can be cleaned with a straw cleaner if necessary. After cleaning and drying, carefully reassemble the device.

Comparison with other AirVape models

For the sake of completeness, I will mention that before the Legacy series, Apollo AirVape had the popular AirVape X and AirVape XS models. These were much smaller, ultra-thin vaporisers. 

Legacy Pro is in a different category – it is a larger, more powerful device with hybrid heating, whereas AirVape X is a purely conductive vaporiser. 

Therefore, they cannot be directly compared; Legacy Pro targets more demanding users who want performance close to desktop vaporisers, but in a portable design.

The result is a sophisticated vaporiser that confidently claims its place among the best portable dry herb vaporisers. 

Of course, no product is without flaws, and the minor drawbacks of the Legacy Pro stem mainly from its complexity. Maintenance is more demanding – if you don’t enjoy cleaning your vaporiser, you have to expect that with the Legacy Pro, it’s a bit of an extra “hobby”. 

If you are looking for a high-quality, reliable and feature-packed vaporiser for everyday use, I can recommend the Legacy Pro with a clear conscience. This model is an excellent combination of performance and elegance – it is a vaporiser that you will enjoy using and which, thanks to its quality, can serve you for a very long time. 

It is undoubtedly one of the top devices in its class and, for many users, it may be an investment they will not regret.
