Compatibility
Solo 2 is only compatible with dry herbs. However, it has a secondary function as an aromatic diffuser. In this mode, aromatic herbs can be placed in the ‘aromatic bowl’, where the herbs are heated and spread their therapeutic scent throughout the room.
Official accessories
There are a number of different accessories available for the Solo 2, but the most interesting are the various mouthpieces.
- The Curved Mouthpiece is curved at the top, allowing users to vape without having to hold the Solo 2 directly under their mouth. This is probably the best mouthpiece for the Solo 2, and it would be nice if it were included in the original package.
- Aromatic tube with end cap has a narrowed opening that feels more natural when inhaling. Users can also inhale less vapour with each puff.
- Frosted glass tube: serves as an adapter for connecting the vaporiser to a hookah or bong.
Design and features
Solo2 is a bit large for a portable device; it won’t fit in your pocket, but it will fit in a handbag or backpack. This makes it more suitable for home vaping rather than travel or other outdoor activities, especially since you need to be careful with the long glass tube.
Solo2 has a relatively unremarkable but functional design. It has a cyclical menu that responds very well and an OLED display above it that shows important information such as temperature settings and battery status.
It is also very easy to use, just insert the end of the mouthpiece into the herb and place it in the chamber. This is one of the simplest and fastest filling procedures.
The overall clean design may not be very exciting, but this is offset by the absolute ease of use of the entire device. It is also a very solid and robust device. As soon as you pick it up, you will notice that its workmanship and finish are top-notch, nothing here feels cheap or unnatural.
The glass tube is made of durable, heat-resistant borosilicate glass. Thanks to the long air path, the vapour remains cool and the flavour is preserved thanks to the neutral glass material. It has four well-sized air holes in the partition that separates the air path from the mouthpiece section where the herb is placed.
If you wish, you can use one of the filter screens, but this is not necessary, especially since you have to clean the screens if you use them. If you do not grind the herbs too finely, you will not need these screens.
The long borosilicate glass mouthpieces included with the Solo 2 are a registered trademark of Arizer and are its most distinctive features. Not only do they simplify filling, but their long air path also helps cool the vapour before it reaches the user’s mouth. The neutral glass material also helps keep the vapour tasting clean, free from any foreign substances.
They may seem too simple, but glass mouthpieces are among the best components you will find on a vaporiser.
How to use
- Insert the bottom end of one of the glass tubes into the herb, tap the end to create a small space between the herb and the opening, and then insert it into the herb chamber.
- Hold down the menu button and the up button simultaneously to turn on the device.
- Press the up and down buttons to select the temperature in 1 °C increments, or hold to select the temperature in 10 °C increments.
- Once heating is complete, inhale from the mouthpiece.
Cleaning and maintenance
Solo2 is one of the least maintenance-intensive vaporizers you will ever encounter.
Only the glass tube needs to be cleaned, which is easy to do. Use the included cleaning tool to scrape any herb residue out of the glass tube. That’s usually all you need to do, but if you want to be more thorough, you can soak them in isopropyl alcohol for a few minutes and then rinse them with hot water. Occasionally, the chamber also needs to be cleaned, which can be done with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol and holding the Solo 2 upside down.
Tip: Do not leave herb residue in the glass tube for too long, as it will dry out, stick to the walls and be difficult to clean. Instead, clean the mouthpieces after each use while they are still slightly warm and the residue is loose.
Steam performance and quality
In addition to fast filling, the Solo 2 is also pleasant to use thanks to its extremely fast heating time. And unlike smaller vaporisers, the Solo 2 does not heat up even after prolonged use.
The vapour from the Solo 2 is smooth, clean and cool thanks to the hybrid heating system and borosilicate mouthpieces. The mouthpieces provide a long air path, which cools the vapour and keeps it clean. A longer mouthpiece is better for keeping the vapour cool. With a shorter mouthpiece, the vapour is warmer, so keep this in mind when choosing a mouthpiece.
Resistance to clogging depends on the grind density and how you pack the herb in the chamber. If you don’t grind the herb finely enough and use too much, clogging can be quite difficult. A finer grind and looser packing will allow the vapour to flow more freely.
The Solo2 produces thick, visible vapour. The vapour is denser at higher temperatures, while the flavour is better at lower temperatures, which should be taken into account when selecting the temperature.
Solo2 holds about 0.15 grams of herbs, but you don’t have to fill it to full capacity if you don’t want to. Micro-dosing is possible. However, you will need to set the temperature slightly higher than usual to vaporise herbs.
Solo 2 is one of the better dry herb vaporisers from Arizer.
Battery performance
Solo2 has one of the most powerful batteries, lasting up to three hours of operation without recharging. This allows you to enjoy several sessions in a row. Charging takes ninety minutes, so you’ll never have to go without it for long. As a nice bonus, the Solo 2 has pass-through charging, so you can continue vaporising even while charging.
