AirVape X vaporizer review

AirVape X: portable vaporizer for beginners and intermediate users

The AirVape X is a mid-range herbal vaporizer with a ceramic chamber and mouthpiece, precise temperature control and an informative LED display. It offers a decent level of discretion and portability while providing good vapour flavour.

There are also useful accessories available, including a silicone adapter for a water bong and two types of casessilicone for use at higher temperatures and X shell for protection during transport (included), which adds great value.

All in all, this is an excellent travel vaporiser at a decent price, but if vapour quality is your number one priority, there are bigger and better devices out there.

The original AirVape dry herb vaporizer was launched in 2017 and was one of the highly recommended compact dry herb vaporizers on the market. The X model from AirVape was released a year later and retained the same slim and simple design while improving overall performance.

The X has a 25% larger heating chamber and a ceramic mouthpiece instead of a glass one, which allows it to produce higher quality vapour. The mouthpiece has been redesigned and equipped with magnetic connectors to make it easy to remove when inserting herbs into the chamber. This is a vaporiser that will satisfy the needs of beginners and intermediate users.

Set and accessories

The package includes:

The concentrate pad is used to vaporise concentrates. However, I do not recommend this, as the wax will not be vaporised effectively and cleaning will be a sticky and messy process. If you want to vaporise extracts, stick to a concentrate vaporiser pen.

X Shell provides full-body protection for the vaporizer, increasing both durability and portability. The case slips easily onto the vaporizer, maintaining its slim profile while providing additional protection against impact and splashing water.

Optional accessories

Various accessories are available for the AirVape that can potentially enhance your vaporizing experience:

  • Water Bubbler: The water bubbler allows you to use water filtration to cool the vapour. This feature is mainly intended for hardcore vaporizer users, as it removes one of the most important features of the X, which is portability.
  • Adapter for water pipe: Allows the X to be adapted to any traditional water pipe. It is suitable for both beginners and hardcore vaporizer users who want to enjoy a traditional bong without using a lighter.
  • Powerbank & charging station: Since the AirVape X’s battery life is relatively short, there are several different types of chargers available to keep it charged.

Design & features

The AirVape X is the thinnest dry herb vaporizer I have encountered so far—it is as narrow as a smartphone and slightly wider at the top, where the herb chamber is located. The overall slimness of the X model means that it is very lightweight, making it easy to carry around. Although lightweight, it feels quite sturdy, as the device is constructed from stainless steel.

X is ten centimetres tall and has a rectangular body with rounded edges. It has an LED screen on the front paired with a power switch and temperature control button below it. Overall, the X has a simple design that offers a high level of portability.

Mouthpiece

The X has a ceramic mouthpiece with a thin tip that fits comfortably on the lips. The mouthpiece is magnetically attached and requires a fair amount of force to remove. This means that, compared to the AirVape Xs Go, it won’t accidentally disconnect, especially in your pocket.

However, the downside is that it gets hot during longer sessions. Thanks to the included silicone tip cover, it is bearable to take a puff, but the vapour can heat up and become intense.

Heating chamber

The AirVape X has an oval heating chamber with smooth edges at the top, which allows for quick filling, as you can easily scoop up the herb and start your session. It is made of ceramic and can hold up to 0.25 g of dry herb. Underneath is a ceramic plate that heats the herbs from top to bottom.

It also has a compartment that accumulates hot air, which helps the herb vaporise more efficiently.

How to use it

Portable vaporiser The AirVape X is a plug-and-play device, and beginners will have no problems with this vaporiser. Before using the device for the first time, make sure it is fully charged. To use it, you must:

  1. (Recommended) We suggest grinding your herbs with a high-quality grinder such as the Chewy G3 Basic Edition to increase the surface area and heat the herb evenly.
  2. Remove the magnetic lid to reveal the herb chamber.
  3. Fill the herb chamber and then attach the mouthpiece.
  4. Press the power button three times to turn on the device.
  5. Use the up and down buttons to select the temperature.
  6. Once the device vibrates, inhale from the mouthpiece.

Setting the temperature: You can set the temperature precisely in increments of one degree from 93 to 220 °C. Switching between °F and °C: Press the power button and the down button to switch from Fahrenheit to Celsius.

Automatic shut-off function: You can switch the automatic shut-off function from three minutes to five minutes by pressing the power button and the up button simultaneously. Vibration feedback: The device vibrates when the heating process is complete.

Performance and vapour quality

I achieved the best results when vaporising at around 175 to 185 °C. At lower temperatures, the taste is not as strong, and at higher temperatures, the vapour is very intense. For a more satisfying experience, I recommend finishing the session at 200 °C, as this will give you the right intensity and taste of the vapour.

Given the size of the device, the vapour produced by the X model is quite aromatic, but it cannot match the quality of vapour produced by top-of-the-range vaporisers.

The ceramic chamber and mouthpiece work together to keep the vapour clean and tasty. The mouthpiece also does a solid job of keeping the vapour cool despite the short airflow path, although it can get a little warm, especially at higher temperature settings.

However, as I mentioned earlier, the temperature never rises high enough to properly vaporise wax concentrates. Although the X is marketed as a dual-use vaporiser, its use with concentrates is practically theoretical. For concentrates, it is best to use vaporisers designed for that purpose.

Battery performance: The X has a 1300 mAh battery that lasts for an hour of vaporisation. It uses a micro-USB charger and takes approximately eighty minutes to charge. The battery life is relatively low for a mid-range vaporiser, but note that the X can be used while plugged into a power outlet as it supports pass-through charging.

Conclusion

In my opinion, the X is still a viable option for vaporizer users looking for a durable device that offers a high level of discretion and portability. It has a slim and intuitive design, featuring precise temperature control and ceramic vapour conduction that allows it to produce good quality vapour.

However, the Airvape X does not last as long as most mid-range herbal vaporizers in terms of battery life, and carrying a power bank with you is inconvenient. It also has a short vapour path, which does not allow the vapour to cool down more.
