Ease of use

Both the IQ and IQ2 are very similar in use. However, the IQ2 has some nice improvements! In particular, cleaning the IQ2 is less complicated than with the original model.

As soon as you start filling the IQ2, you will realise that using this vaporiser is a pleasure. Open the chamber lid and you will see a shaped filling hole and a shiny bead. The crushed herbs slide into the chamber as easily as if there were a herb magnet inside.

Need to make the chamber smaller? Just turn the bead a few times. You can also play around with the airflow settings, which can be adjusted by simply turning the wheel at the bottom of the device. Turn on the vaporizer and wait for the vibration. Then enjoy not only the high-quality vapour, but also the pleasant feel of the device itself.

Construction and design

If you’ve had a vaporizer from DaVinci before, you know what to expect – quality you can recognise from the first touch.

The IQ2 has a brushed and anodised aluminium finish. Its beautiful curves fit comfortably in your hand and the new Air Dial for adjusting the airflow enhances the ergonomics. The body heats up less than the previous model and feels very high quality.

The IQ features a solid metal construction with LED indicators and simple controls.

Smart Paths modes allow you to automatically increase the temperature during vaporisation.

Vapour quality

The vapour is cool and pure thanks to the zirconium path.

The vapour produced by the IQ2 is excellent. It cools sufficiently during its journey through the chamber and mouthpiece. The taste of the herbs comes through and lasts longer than with other conduction vaporisers.

The IQ and IQ2 provide high-quality vapour and are definitely the best vapour from conduction devices we have ever tested. In addition, the IQ2 has significantly improved airflow thanks to an improved mouthpiece and adjustable airflow.

Battery life and charging

Both the IQ and IQ2 use a replaceable 18650 battery. Charging with a capacity of 3500 mAh takes 3.5 to 6 hours via micro USB – an external charger is recommended.

The IQ2 can handle up to 9 sessions or 72 minutes of operation on a single charge. With a fully charged battery, it can reach 200 °C in one minute, but with a nearly empty battery, it can take up to 90 seconds. This makes it slower than most other modern vaporisers, but are those extra fifteen seconds important when you’re about to embark on a session lasting several minutes?

Heating and chamber capacity

Both the IQ and IQ2 can hold 0.3–0.5 g of herbs and use a ceramic conduction heating system.

The IQ2 is also compatible with waxes and concentrates thanks to a dosing capsule. The bead in the chamber has been redesigned to allow for capacity adjustment and more even heating.

Unique features of the IQ2

  • Air Dial: Five-step airflow adjustment
  • Dosing mode: Enter the active ingredient content of the herb and the device calculates the consumption per puff
  • Possibility of using concentrates: The accessories include a ceramic dosing capsule, allowing the device to work with herbs, concentrates or both at the same time.
  • Adjustable chamber size: The pearl has undergone a change. It now has a more oval shape, can be unscrewed even further for smaller doses and is much easier to adjust.

The IQ2 offers control and personalisation that other vaporisers do not offer.

Portability

The IQ2 is 9% larger and 11g heavier than the original IQ, but still fits comfortably in your pocket. Both vaporisers look inconspicuous, resembling a power bank rather than a vaporiser device.

How to use

Here are a few tips and tricks for the DaVinci IQ2 and IQ to help you get even more out of these vaporizers:

  • Crush the herb finely and pack it loosely. This is better for conduction vaporizers such as the DaVinci IQ / 2.
  • If you want to maximise vapour output and extraction, take slow, long draws instead of quick ones.
  • You can vaporise other herbs or fill the chamber with them. These include sage, thyme, peppermint, damiana, blue lotus and more.
  • Smart paths are a fun way to automatically increase the temperature during a session, starting low for flavour and high for strong effects.
  • The stirrer fits conveniently inside the device, allowing you to easily stir the bowl during a session for even extraction.

Maintenance and cleaning

If you want your vapour to be clean, empty the IQ, IQ2 about one minute after use – the accumulated residue should still be warm enough to be removed without burning yourself. Also wipe the bowl while it is still warm.

The original IQ was difficult to clean under the chamber, which has been modified in the IQ2. Although there is still a gap between the chamber and the bottom seal, the transition is not as pronounced.

Who are the IQ and IQ2 vaporizers designed for?

The DaVinci brothers are best suited for someone who is often on the go and prefers larger doses thanks to the large herb chamber. Of course, this amount can be significantly reduced with the use of spacers and pearls.

The IQ2 is really great for those who like to determine their dose precisely and want to be sure they get a certain amount of cannabinoid without it being too much. While this may be irrelevant to some, it can be very useful for those who are more conscious about the effects and amount of active ingredients they consume.

On the other hand, they are not so great for continuous sessions because they get quite warm in your hand, which can be quite uncomfortable. If you mostly use herbs at home, then consider a home portable device such as the Arizer Solo 2.

DaVinci MIQRO

As I promised at the beginning, I took the opportunity to test its smaller brother, the MIQRO.

It’s about a third smaller than the IQ, but shares many of its features. A great LED display, removable battery, high-quality vapour, smartphone app… The only real negative I noticed is the temperature of the vapour, which doesn’t have time to cool down properly during the relatively short journey.

It is ideal for microdosing and vaping on the go, but the shorter vapour path means a higher output temperature.

Verdict

Vaporizers from DaVinci will be appreciated by anyone who pays attention to detail and is willing to pay a little extra for it.

Summary comparison of the IQ and IQ2 vaporizers

There has definitely been an improvement in all areas! In summary, the following changes have been made to the IQ2: cleaning process, slightly improved chamber, battery door issues, top cap issues, improved airflow, variable airflow added, dosing control system added, improved pearl, dosing capsule added, improved heat management and physical design of the device.

Whether it’s worth the increased price is up to you. We say it’s worth investing and forgetting about it, because DaVinci will easily help you if something happens. The new dosing control system is the biggest change we like, and it’s definitely worth it if you’re the type who wants to have this under control.

With the updates in IQ2, we are actually happier than with Crafty +. We wouldn’t say it’s a complete game changer, but it’s definitely an improvement that has improved the original IQ in many aspects. If you already have an IQ, it may not be worth upgrading. However, if you’ve been eyeing the IQ, I think the IQ2 is worth the extra coin.
