Cannabinoids are compounds found naturally in cannabis. One of the best known is cannabidiol (CBD), which, unlike the famous THC, is not psychoactive. It does not alter our perception of reality and is legal. When dried cannabis is vaporised, the herb is heated to a temperature of between about 157 and 220 °C (below the burning point, which is about 233 °C). Each cannabinoid starts to be released from the cannabis plant at a different temperature – for CBD this is 170 °C. A number of commonly available herbs can be vaporised. The resulting vapour, which contains the desired substances, is then inhaled directly into the lungs, similar to cigarettes.

When smoking cigarettes, the plant material is ignited and then destroyed. This releases tar and various carcinogens. When vaping, the risk of complications and health problems is much lower. The plant material is heated only until the desired cannabinoids are released without burning. Thus, when vaping we inhale vapour, when smoking we inhale smoke. You can choose from a wide range of products that use the vaporisation process, such as desktop vaporisers, portable vaporisers or the aforementioned and very popular vaping pens.

Bulk desktop vaporizers vs. vape pens

Vaporisation used to involve the use of unwieldy and cumbersome apparatus and large table-top devices. Benchtop vaporizers, also referred to as fixed vaporizers, are not portable. However, they have the advantage of much higher vapour quality due to the convection heating device. With convection heating, the plant material never comes into contact with the heating element. The heated air passes through the material thanks to the fan, which allows the material to vaporise more evenly and efficiently.

Liquid or dry herbs?
